Raised between two worlds — the Caribbean diaspora and the wider English-speaking world — she has spent decades researching Haiti's extraordinary story, driven by a deep personal connection to the island's history and a fierce belief that this story deserves to be told with the dignity and power it commands.
As a Baptist, Lutza brings a spiritual dimension to her historical work that is rare and vital. She understands that Haiti's revolution was not only a political event — it was a spiritual one, rooted in the faith, the Vodou ceremonies, and the unbreakable conviction of a people who believed that God had not made them to be enslaved.
